Autism - Group for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Being on the autism spectrum can involve strengths and present challenges in the everyday life of a student. In this group, you will have the opportunity to learn more about yourself, be inspired by others, and discuss experiences and ask questions.

The following are topics addressed in the group:

  1. What is autism (formerly often referred to as Asperger's syndrome) and how do I communicate my diagnosis to others?

  2. Coping with stressors

  3. Characteristics of communication

  4. Student rights and accommodation of the study situation

  5. How to better manage student life

  6. Dealing with intrusive rumination and worry and using coping strategies

  7. Characteristics of relationships (friendship and close relationships)

  8. Understanding emotions

  9. Self-criticism and self-esteem

  10. Transition from being a student to the professional world

  11. Information about other services in the community

The purpose of the group is to experience community, share experiences, learn more about how to handle personal challenges, and discover strengths in the study situation.

Practical Information:

This group involves some teaching but focuses mostly on active participation and the exchange of experiences. You decide what you want to share.

10 sessions with various topics and some sessions set aside for the repetition of themes.

Number of participants: Up to 15.

Registration can be done oneline. You will be contacted before the group starts with information about whether you have secured a spot. If you're informed that the group is full, you will have the option to be placed on the waiting list.
