Anxiety and Depression

We have all done things we might wish we hadn't because the emotions are strong. Or avoided doing things so that uncomfortable feelings do not arise. When we are having a hard time, it is human to do things that help in the moment but may not necessarily help us in the long run. Rather, we may feel stuck and not know exactly how to move forward.

We have different emotions, some that are easy to handle, others that are more challenging. Individuals who have or are vulnerable to developing various emotional difficulties seem to experience emotions more strongly and more frequently than average.

Does it seem like you become sadder/anxious/frustrated more easily than others?

Is it difficult for you to stop thinking about things that make you anxious, angry, or embarrassed?

Or do you try to avoid thinking about these things?

Do you keep busy to avoid feeling difficult emotions?

Do you postpone doing something that could make you anxious?

Do you say no to various gatherings because you are afraid of not being good enough?

Are you someone who ruminates or worries a lot?

Do you have difficulty controlling your temper?

Do you tend to isolate yourself when you feel down?

Do you prioritize things you know are good for you (e.g., sleep and rest) when you are stressed?

Perhaps you recognize yourself in one or more of these points? If what you recognize is causing trouble for you in your life, this group may be for you. The group is for those struggling with various forms of anxiety issues or a combination of anxiety and depression.

What will you learn?

In the group, you will learn about:

  1. Emotions

  2. Tools for managing strong emotions

  3. Practice the tools so that they become helpful in your life.

Research has shown that many emotional difficulties have something fundamental in common. The focus of this treatment is therefore directed toward what is common to various emotional difficulties. The treatment is based on cognitive therapy with an additional emphasis on emotions and emotion regulation. Elements of the treatment also include mindfulness exercises and exposure.

Practical Information

Together, we work on what can be good and important goals for you and how these can be broken down so that you gradually move toward your goals. Much of this work is done between sessions, where you live your life. There is both sharing of experiences, teaching, and exercises. You decide how much you want to share.

Each course has 10 meetings, with a duration of 2 hours each. Number of participants: 8-10.

This is for you who:

  1. Are a student and pay semester fees to Sammen/ your institution

  2. Recognize yourself in the descriptions above

  3. Can attend the entire course (preferably all 10 course meetings, unless otherwise agreed)

This is not the group for you if you are currently struggling with psychosis, substance abuseissues, or have serious thoughts of taking your life. In such cases, we would rather help you find a more suitable offer.
