Expenses for psychologists:
Psychological treatment under HELFOS' self-sufficiency limit 1 is refundable. This applies to treatment by psychologist specialists who have an agreement with the municipality and treatment at DPS (District Psychiatric Center). Expenses are covered from the first NOK to the deduction limit. Expenses must be documented with HELFO receipt.
Expenses for dentist:
Note that as of 2023, applicants who reach the age of 19 through 24 in the year of treatment are entitled to expanded county dental services (75 percent). Check the website of your county (fylkeskommunen). These applicants must therefore make use of this county dental health service, and will not be reimbursed for dental expenses through the Health Fund.
Students who are 25 years or older (born in 1998 or earlier) can apply for a 25% amount of support for dental expenses in Norway.
You must enclose a receipt with specified date of treatment and confirmation from the dentist that only necessary treatment has been given. The maximum amount of support is NOK 5,000 per year. Approved expenses can therefore not exceed NOK 20,000. Support for braces, dental implants or cosmetic dentistry will not be given.
Expenses related to accidents or dental damages:
Dental repairs of injuries caused by an accident, or a fall, requires documentation from a doctor or a dentist. The documentation needs to contain information about whether insurance or the public covers parts of or the whole treatment. The maximum amount of support is NOK 10,000 per year. Approved expenses can therefore not exceed NOK 40,000.
Expenses for transportation:
Sammen reimburses 50 % of your expenses when an injury or illness prevent you from using public transportation. If an injury prevents you from getting home and to your place of study by public transport, you may apply for financial support for transportation to attend lectures or exams. The aid applies to 1 round trip per day. Traveling on a weekend is not eligible. Support is given for a period of maximum four weeks. Of the approved expenses, a deduction of 50% is calculated. The need for transportation must be documented by a doctor, and be enclosed in the application.
Note that with the new rules, students will no longer receive reimbursement of medical expenses or physiotherapists, except for damaged teeth as a result of an accident. These changes are requested and approved by Velferdstinget and Sammen. This ensures financial support for the most vulnerable students.
