Advice and information regarding the Corona virus
Updated: 11th of March 2020
How to prevent infection
As with colds and influenza, the virus is transmitted from the respiratory tract of a sick person.
Habits wich helps prevent infection:
- Use a paper tissue over your mouth and nose to protect others when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away immediately and then wash your hands. Use a flexed elbow if tissues are not at hand.
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often, particularly when around other people.
- Hand disinfection with alcohol-based products is a good alternative when you are unable to wash your hands, for example when you are travelling.
What should you do if you suspect that you are sick with the novel coronavirus?
Contact the doctor’s office by telephone for advice and to arrange a consultation. N.B. Don't go to the doctor's office in person.
- If you can't find answers on fhi.no/en, you can call them at: 815 55 015
- Ring your GP, or if you can't reach your GP use the emergency out-of-hours clinic on: 116117
- You can also get information on the coronavirus from Bergen Kommune at 55 56 77 00
Symptoms of the disease are the same as other respiratory infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, chest pain and breathing difficulties.
Contact your doctor by telepehone if you have these symptoms and have been in at least one of the following situations:
- Have been in an area with ongoing transmission of coronavirus within the last 14 days
- Have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus during the last 14 days. Areas with presumed ongoing transmission.
Residents at Sammen
If you are residing at Sammen Housing and suspect you are infected with the coronavirus or if you have visited areas with ongoing transmission the last 14 days, contact bolig@sammen.no If you suspect you are infected you must also contact your GP.
People who have been in areas with ongoing transmission
Healthy people who have stayed in areas with an ongoing transmission of COVID-19 during the last 14 days and develop symptoms of respiratory disease (fever, cough and other respiratory symptoms) within 14 days of their return, should seek medical attention (by phone) if they arise.
If they have not been in contact with a confirmed case and do not have symptoms they can be in contact with others. Good hand and respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette is advised.
Healthy people who have been in close contact with a confirmed case (person diagnosed with the virus) during the last 14 days should seek medical advice and will be followed up.
We recommend that people who have been in areas with ongoing transmission within the last 14 days do not visit health institutions, unless it is absolutely necessary. If the visit cannot be avoided, contact the department where the patient is in advance by telephone to ensure that necessary infection control measures are in place.
What is Sammen doing?
We are closely monitoring the situation and will adhere to the recommendations of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. We will take necessary measure if needed. We urge everyone to wash your hands often and thoroughly, and also to use hand disinfection with alcohol-based products as an alternative when you're unable to wash your hands.
Measures being taken as of 11th of March 2020
- We have increased our hygienic measures, also at Fantoft. Any high-touch surfaces will be wiped down more frequently.
- All our cafees will close their self-service buffet (salad and hot food). All salads will be prepared for sale in single-serve containers, hot food will be sold by plate where it’s possible. All non-packaged food items and products will be limited to over-the-counter sale. We will also only offer single-serve flatware and cutlery. Water coolers open to all customers will be closed.
- We will reduce capacity at our classes at all our gyms and close saunas and steambaths. Click here for more information regarding Sammen Sports centre.
Sammen will adhere to advise from the Bergen Infection Control Office and procedures implemented by our collaborating institutions of higher education regarding closures of any of our service. If we must close one of our services, we will update this page. If needed, we will inform those directly affected by the closure.
